MANDATORY CE OR PL WHAT DO I NEED TO TAKE?
If you initially received your license before 2004, you need 16 Hours of CE. More information here.
If you initially received your license after 2003, you need 30 Hours of PL to renew your license regardless if your license is active or inactive. For more information on your Education Requirements or to find out what courses you have completed toward your Post License Education click here.
Continuing Education: 16 Hour Requirement
A Total of 16 hours of Continuing Education is required if your license expiration date is after July 1, 2004.
You must have 8 hours in the mandatory topics, which includes 2 hours in Fair Housing and the remaining 6 hours must be a minimum of 1 hour in each of the following categories:
- Legal Updates,
- Real Estate Agency,
- Real Estate Contracts,
- Ethics & Standards of Conduct
The remaining hours may be real estate related or in the specific categories.

Post Licensure: 30 Hour Requirement
If you received a new salesperson license (active or inactive) after December 31, 2003, and this is your FIRST TIME RENEWAL , you will need to complete 30 hours of Post-License Education instead of Continuing Education. You may only choose one track for your mandatory hours. Once you complete a mandatory course in a track, you must complete all of the mandatory hours in that track. The elective hours may be taken from any tracks.

LIMITED SERVICE AGENCY
In addition to these 30 hours of Post License Education, all New Salespersons whose license expires before July 1, 2009, must complete a two-hour course in Limited Service Agency (LSA). LSA is a one-time only requirement.

National Association Of REALTORS® 2-1/2 Hrs of Ethics Quadrennial requirement:
Effective January 1, 2005; through December 31, 2009, and for successive four-year periods thereafter, every REALTOR® is required to complete 2 1/2 hours of Code of Ethics training. REALTORS® who have completed this training as a requirement of membership in another association or who have completed the New Member Code of Ethics Orientation during any four-year cycle are not required to complete additional ethics training until a new four year cycle begins.
Take the ONLINE QUADRENNIAL REALTOR® ETHICS COURSE. This is an NAR developed online course for completion using a computer and the internet. REALTORS® can stop and restart the course at their convenience within a 30-day time period. Successful completion is recorded in the National REALTOR® Database System (NRDS) and satisfies a member's Code of Ethics trainign requirements.
The Blue Ridge Association of REALTORS® offers a 2 1/2 hour ethics class every month. This class counts as 3 credit hours towards your Post Licensure or Continuing Ed.
