Admitted to the Virginia Association of REALTORS® as Members-at-Large in 1941, the Blue Ridge Association of REALTORS®, Inc. (BRAR), was chartered by the National Association of REALTORS® on March 20, 1961 by 19 real estate professionals with the goal of adopting a standard Code of Ethics and providing better service to the public. On May 9, 1961, the NAR Board of Directors approves Blue Ridge as a member board. On November 12, 1963 our name changed to Blue Ridge Board of REALTORS® and then on November 16, 1977 it was changed to Blue Ridge Board of REALTORS®, Inc., and finally on November 4, 1992, it was changed to Blue Ridge Association of REALTORS, Inc. Since that time, the organization has grown to 78 brokerage firms and 585 REALTOR® members. We have grown with the community and the nation.
Blue Ridge Association of REALTORS®, with it’s state and national counterparts, make up the largest and oldest professional trade group in the nation. We are the advocates for everyone who owns or hopes to own real estate. We are the guardians of the right to own private property. We do this through educational programs, governmental and legislative assistance on local, state and national levels. We represent real estate professionals in the counties of Clarke, Frederick, and Warren, and the city of Winchester.
Blue Ridge Association of REALTORS® has 2 lifelong members, Delmar Bayliss of DAB Commercial Realty and the late E.E. Bayliss, Jr of E.E. Bayliss, Jr, REALTOR®. He opened his office in 1956. He was president of BRAR in 1972, REALTOR® of the Year award in 1977 and received his lifelong membership from BRAR and VAR on December 6, 2001. He passed away on June 1, 2009.
